Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive behavior that has become a significant issue among junior high school students in Indonesia. This study employed a literature review method to identify the underlying reasons behind this phenomenon. To provide a comprehensive explanation, this study examined three primary perspectives: peers, school environment, and parental influence, to answer the research question, "Why do junior high school students in Indonesia bully their peers?" The findings indicate that bullying among peers is often influenced by social constructions, such as group norms or peer pressure. Within the school environment, factors contributing to bullying include weak enforcement of regulations and non-compliance with existing rules. Meanwhile, inappropriate parenting styles and poor quality relationships between parents and children also contribute to bullying behavior. This research is expected to serve as a reference for bullying prevention efforts among students. However, further research is still needed to identify additional factors that may contribute to the bullying phenomenon in secondary schools.
